Ranakpur Adinath Jain Temple is unexcelled in terms of crafts and vastness in India. An amazing and unique sample of ancient crafts Ranakpur is situated near Sadri at Desuri tehsil in Pali district of Rajasthan. It is located between Udaipur and Jodhpur, 94 km from Udaipur and 163 km from Jodhpur in a valley of Aravalli hills. It is considered the key of ‘Jain Panchtirtha’ of Godwar. According to legends, the temple was constructed by a Jain merchant Dharna Shah and ruler of Mewar Rana Kumbha in the 15th century. The name of the place ‘Ranakpur’ was named after Rana Kumbha. Ranakpur is famous throughout the world for its beautiful carving and antiquity of the Jain temples. It is dedicated to Tirthankara Adinatha the first Tirthankar and founder of the Jain religion. The famous Chaumukha Jain temple in Ranakpur is dedicated to Lord Rishabhdev. Parshvanatha and Neminatha temples are located un front of the main temple.

It is believed that the construction of the temple began in 1446 of Vikram Samvat which had lasted for more than 50 years. Its construction was spent around 99 lacs rupees at that time.
There are four entrances to the temple. The adytum has four large marble sculptures of the Tirthankara Adinatha. These idols about 72 inches high, are oriented towards four different directions. The architectural excellence of artisans of the era looks on 80 domes, 29 halls and 1444 pillars. The special feature of pillars is that they are all unique. Beautiful carvings of the temples reminds us of sculptures of Khajuraho.
The temple is also famous for a large number of monkeys. 🙂
